Pau d’arco (Lapacho; Tabebuia avellanedae; Taheboo)
Pau d’arco is native to South America, where it has been used to treat a wide range of conditions, including pain, arthritis, inflammation of the prostate, fever, dysentery, boils and ulcers, and several types of cancer. Medicinal uses of pau d’arco have been reported as early as 1873.
Scientists have identified two active chemicals em Pau d’arco. These chemicals are called naphthoquinones: lapachol and beta-lapachone.
